A Chocolate Shop Closed Over Easter
Updated: May 10, 2020
At the end of the Saturday before Mothers day in March 2020, the Chocolate Lovers team shut up shop for the foreseeable future.
Covid-19 had hit the UK, the government had issued instructions about a full UK lockdown. We were all to go home and stay there. Let Lockdown commence!
Our chocolatier had been preparing for a busy Easter, handmade Easter Egg orders had been received, and we had to contact customers to deliver them directly to their homes.
We had some stock going out of date at the end of April, so we donated that to a local nurse near to our home, so she could take it into work for the hardworking NHS staff to grab a snack when they needed something.
Any Easter eggs we had left, were donated to our home neighbours.
We had to ask ourselves - How were we going to survive?
Well the government thankfully stepped up and helped small businesses financially.
We had to evolve, quickly. We set up an e-commerce site, sent out visual emails to subscribers of our existing website news updates, ran a poetry competition and we worked none stop on our Search Engine Optimisation.
One of our team members was an experienced digital marketer, so we used that in-house expertise to our full advantage.
We are still in shut down, but each day we deliver our chocolates for free to the Market Harborough and Kibworth areas. We also use a national courier for orders from further afield.
Retail is difficult, but we have to evolve to survive. We'll see you on the other side.
